Ingredients
For the Taco Shells:
- 6 small flour tortillas
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Apple Pie Filling:
- 3 medium-sized apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
For the Toppings:
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
- Caramel sauce
Instructions
-
Prepare the Taco Shells
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush both sides of the flour tortillas with melted butter.
- In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle it evenly over both sides of the tortillas.
- Drape the tortillas over the rungs of your oven rack to create a taco shape. Make sure they’re balanced so they don’t slip.
- Bake for 7–9 minutes, or until the tortillas are golden brown and crispy. Carefully remove them from the oven and let them cool completely.
-
Make the Apple Pie Filling
- In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir occasionally and cook for 5–7 minutes, or until the apples are tender and caramelized.
- Sprinkle the flour over the apple mixture and stir well. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to thicken the filling.
- Remove from heat and let the filling cool for a few minutes.
-
Assemble the Apple Pie Tacos
- Spoon the warm apple pie filling into the cooled taco shells. Fill generously to ensure a satisfying bite.
- Top with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra indulgent finish.
-
Serve and Enjoy
- Serve the apple pie tacos immediately while the shells are crispy and the filling is warm.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala for the best texture and flavor.
- Adjust the sweetness of the filling by adding an extra tablespoon of brown sugar if desired.
- To keep the shells crispy, fill them just before serving.
- For a crunchy twist, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top of the tacos.
- Leftover apple pie filling can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before use.
