Ingredients
For the Fritters:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 ½ cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk (adjust for glaze consistency)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Combine the Wet Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
- Make the Batter
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
- Shape and Bake the Fritters
- Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave about 2 inches between each fritter.
- Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Make the Glaze
- While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Adjust the glaze’s consistency with more milk if needed.
- Glaze and Serve
- Drizzle or brush the glaze over the warm fritters.
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
Notes
- Use the Right Apples: Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples offer the best tart-sweet flavor and hold their shape well during baking.
- Don’t Overmix the Batter: Stir the wet and dry ingredients until just combined to avoid dense fritters.
- Test for Doneness: A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean to confirm they are done.
