Description

If you love the warm, cinnamon-spiced flavor of traditional apple fritters but prefer a lighter option, then these Baked Apple Fritters are the perfect choice. Baked to golden perfection with sweet apples, cinnamon, and a delicious glaze, these fritters offer all the joy of the classic treat without the guilt of frying. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or dessert, they’ll have your kitchen smelling like a cozy fall day.

Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 ½ cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk (adjust for glaze consistency)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Mix the Dry Ingredients
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  • Combine the Wet Ingredients
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
  • Make the Batter
    • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  • Shape and Bake the Fritters
    • Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave about 2 inches between each fritter.
    • Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Make the Glaze
    • While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Adjust the glaze’s consistency with more milk if needed.
  • Glaze and Serve
    • Drizzle or brush the glaze over the warm fritters.
    • Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes

  • Use the Right Apples: Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples offer the best tart-sweet flavor and hold their shape well during baking.
  • Don’t Overmix the Batter: Stir the wet and dry ingredients until just combined to avoid dense fritters.
  • Test for Doneness: A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean to confirm they are done.
