Description
Bananas Foster is a decadent dessert made with ripe bananas, brown sugar, and rum, served warm over vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup banana liqueur
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, mixing until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is bubbly.
- Add the sliced bananas to the skillet, cooking for about 2-3 minutes until they are softened.
- Carefully add the banana liqueur and dark rum to the skillet.
- Allow the mixture to simmer for another minute, then carefully ignite the rum with a long lighter to flambé. Let the flames subside as the alcohol burns off.
- Remove the skillet from heat and serve the warm bananas Foster over scoops of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- For a nutty flavor, add chopped walnuts or pecans to the skillet just before serving.
- Substitute the banana liqueur with orange liqueur for a citrus twist.
