Description

Bananas Foster is a decadent dessert made with ripe bananas, brown sugar, and rum, served warm over vanilla ice cream.


Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup banana liqueur
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, mixing until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is bubbly.
  3. Add the sliced bananas to the skillet, cooking for about 2-3 minutes until they are softened.
  4. Carefully add the banana liqueur and dark rum to the skillet.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer for another minute, then carefully ignite the rum with a long lighter to flambé. Let the flames subside as the alcohol burns off.
  6. Remove the skillet from heat and serve the warm bananas Foster over scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a nutty flavor, add chopped walnuts or pecans to the skillet just before serving.
