Description

A delicious and savory dish featuring tender beef stir-fried with black bean sauce and colorful vegetables, served over rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup fermented black beans, rinsed and mashed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with cornstarch, soy sauce, and black pepper. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Add the mashed black beans, oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir everything together. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the beef is heated through.
  6. Serve hot over cooked white rice.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with tofu or tempeh and use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
  • Add a variety of vegetables such as broccoli, snap peas, or carrots for extra nutrition and color.
