Description
A delicious and savory dish featuring tender beef stir-fried with black bean sauce and colorful vegetables, served over rice.
Ingredients
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup fermented black beans, rinsed and mashed
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Cooked white rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with cornstarch, soy sauce, and black pepper. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- Add the mashed black beans, oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir everything together. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the beef is heated through.
- Serve hot over cooked white rice.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with tofu or tempeh and use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
- Add a variety of vegetables such as broccoli, snap peas, or carrots for extra nutrition and color.
