Description
A delicious family recipe for Beef Pasta in Tomato Sauce, perfect for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 12 ounces pasta (such as penne or rotini)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine with the sauce.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the pasta mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired before serving.
Notes
- For added vegetables, consider stirring in some chopped bell peppers or spinach when you add the crushed tomatoes.
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or use a plant-based meat alternative for a vegetarian version.
