Description

A delicious family recipe for Beef Pasta in Tomato Sauce, perfect for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 12 ounces pasta (such as penne or rotini)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine with the sauce.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the pasta mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired before serving.

Notes

  • For added vegetables, consider stirring in some chopped bell peppers or spinach when you add the crushed tomatoes.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or use a plant-based meat alternative for a vegetarian version.
