Description

Soft, fluffy, and bursting with juicy blueberries, these blueberry cinnamon rolls are a sweet twist on the classic favorite. Topped with a creamy cream cheese glaze, they’re perfect for a cozy breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup milk (warm, about 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Filling:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

For the Cream Cheese Glaze:

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and stir.
    • Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour and salt until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 8 minutes by hand or 5 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Filling
    • In a bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon into a smooth paste.
  5. Roll Out the Dough
    • Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
  6. Add the Filling and Blueberries
    • Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Sprinkle fresh blueberries on top.
  7. Shape the Rolls
    • Roll the dough tightly into a log from the long edge. Slice into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. Second Rise
    • Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until puffy.
  9. Bake the Rolls
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Make the Cream Cheese Glaze
    • In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Adjust the milk to reach your desired consistency.
  11. Glaze the Rolls
    • Spread the cream cheese glaze over the warm rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a citrusy twist, add a tablespoon of lemon zest to the glaze.
  • Make-ahead option: Prepare the rolls and refrigerate overnight before baking. Let them come to room temperature before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
