Description

A delightful pastry braid filled with creamy blueberry and cream cheese, topped with a sweet vanilla icing.


Ingredients

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for topping)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  3. Roll out each sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth out creases. Cut each sheet into a rectangle, about 10×12 inches.
  4. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture down the center of each pastry rectangle, leaving about 2 inches on each side for braiding.
  5. Top the cream cheese mixture with half of the fresh blueberries on each pastry.
  6. Make diagonal cuts about 1 inch apart along the sides of the pastry rectangles. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid effect.
  7. Brush the top of each braid with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. While the pastries are baking, prepare the vanilla icing by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Once the pastries are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling with the vanilla icing.

Notes

  • For a different flavor, substitute the blueberries with raspberries or strawberries.
  • Add a teaspoon of lemon zest to the cream cheese mixture for a refreshing citrus twist.
