Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease if desired.
- Stir in taco seasoning and mix well.
- Add cream cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Cook until creamy and heated through.
- Stir in shredded pepper jack cheese and remove from heat.
Step 2: Warm the Tortillas
- If tortillas feel stiff, microwave them for 10 seconds to make them pliable.
Step 3: Assemble the Taquitos
- Place 2 heaping tablespoons of the beef mixture onto one side of a tortilla.
- Roll the tortilla tightly around the filling to form a taquito.
- Place the rolled taquito seam-side down on a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining filling and tortillas.
Step 4: Choose Your Cooking Method
- Oven Method:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Optionally, brush taquitos with oil for a crispier finish.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- Air Fryer Method:
- Preheat air fryer to 350°F.
- Place taquitos in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 3–4 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy. Optionally, brush with oil for extra crunch.
- Pan Fry Method:
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a shallow skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add 2–4 taquitos at a time, seam-side down.
- Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Serve immediately with your choice of toppings, such as guacamole, salsa, or sour cream.
- Pair with a side of Mexican rice or refried beans for a complete meal.
Notes
- Warm tortillas before rolling to prevent cracking.
- Place taquitos seam-side down while cooking to keep them tightly rolled.
- Use freshly shredded cheese for the best texture and flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in an oven or air fryer for best results.
