Description
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional for savory version)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. If you are using green onions, add them to this mixture.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a round ball.
- Flatten each ball slightly and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a towel and let them rest for another 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Bake the bread for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter version, drizzle honey or maple syrup over the warm bread before serving.
- Experiment by adding spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for a different flavor profile.
