Description
Delicious Chocolate Chip Vanilla Custard Brioches that are soft, fluffy, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for custard)
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for custard)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the melted butter, eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Whisk until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and fold in the chocolate chips. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
- Place the dough balls in a greased muffin tin, covering them with a towel. Let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the brioches for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the brioches are baking, prepare the custard. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract over medium heat until just simmering.
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 2 tablespoons of sugar until pale. Gradually whisk in the hot cream mixture.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened (about 5 minutes). Do not let it boil.
- Once the brioches are done, let them cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a drizzle of the vanilla custard over the top.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon to the dough.
- You can also substitute the chocolate chips with dried fruit or nuts for a different twist.
