Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- 15.25 oz box chocolate cake mix (Devil’s Food)
- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 12 oz jar caramel sundae topping
- 8 oz container whipped topping (thawed)
- ½ cup chopped pecans
- ½ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ⅓ cup salted caramel sauce
For Baking:
- Eggs, water, and oil (as per cake mix instructions)
- Aluminum foil (for lining the pan)
- Cooking spray (light coating)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Cake Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with aluminum foil and lightly spray with cooking oil to prevent sticking.
- Mix and Bake the Cake
- Follow the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box (usually combining the mix with eggs, water, and oil).
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake as per package instructions, but check for doneness 3–5 minutes earlier. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
- Create the Caramel Filling
- While the cake is baking, mix the sweetened condensed milk and caramel sundae topping in a bowl until smooth and creamy.
- This caramel mixture will seep into the cake, creating its signature moist and gooey texture.
- Poke Holes in the Cake
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Use the blunt end of a wooden spoon to poke about 60 evenly spaced holes across the surface of the cake.
- Add the Caramel Filling
- Gradually pour the caramel mixture over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
- Cool and Add Toppings
- Refrigerate the cake for 10 minutes to set the caramel layer.
- Once cooled, spread an even layer of whipped topping over the cake.
- Garnish with Pecans and Chocolate Chips
- Sprinkle the chopped pecans and mini chocolate chips on top of the whipped topping.
- Cover and refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
- Drizzle with Salted Caramel
- Just before serving, drizzle salted caramel sauce over the top of the cake for an extra indulgent touch.
- Slice and serve!
Notes
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: Opt for good-quality chocolate chips, caramel topping, and pecans for the best flavor.
- Chill for Better Flavor: Letting the cake rest overnight enhances the flavors and ensures a moist texture.
- Experiment with Layers: Add extra layers of pecans or chocolate chips inside the cake batter for added richness.
