Quick to make and incredibly satisfying, this dish is perfect for family dinners or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

For the Shrimp

  • 1 lb wild-caught shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest (from 1 lime)
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (from the same lime)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ bunch cilantro, finely chopped

For the Slaw

  • 3 cups green cabbage, finely shredded
  • ½ bunch cilantro, finely chopped
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (from 1 lime)
  • Pinch of salt

For Assembly

  • 8 (6-inch) corn or flour tortillas
  • Sliced avocado
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

 Season the Shrimp

  • Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  • Sprinkle shrimp with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and chili powder. Toss to coat evenly.

2. Cook the Shrimp

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the shrimp in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
  • Cook for 90 seconds on one side, flip, and cook for another 90 seconds until the shrimp turn opaque with golden caramelization.

3. Make the Sauce

  • Reduce heat to low. Add butter, lime zest, lime juice, and honey to the skillet.
  • Toss shrimp in the sauce, simmering for 2–3 minutes until it thickens and coats the shrimp.
  • Stir in chopped cilantro and remove from heat.

4. Prepare the Slaw

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage, cilantro, Greek yogurt, lime juice, and a pinch of salt.
  • Toss well to evenly coat the cabbage.

5. Warm the Tortillas

  • Heat tortillas in the microwave, oven, or over a gas flame for a light char.

6. Assemble the Tacos

  • Add a scoop of slaw to each tortilla, followed by 4–6 shrimp.
  • Drizzle some of the cilantro lime sauce over the shrimp, then top with sliced avocado.
  • Finish with a squeeze of fresh lime juice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the slaw and marinate the shrimp a few hours in advance to save time and enhance flavor.
  • Customize Heat: Add jalapeños, hot sauce, or red pepper flakes for a spicier kick.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use gluten-free corn tortillas and ensure all seasonings are gluten-free.
