Description

Classic Popovers are light, airy bread rolls that are perfect for any meal. They are easy to make and can be customized with various flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk, warmed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the pan

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a popover pan or muffin tin in the oven to heat up.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the warmed milk and eggs until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, sift together the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the milk and egg mixture, whisking until smooth and free of lumps.
  4. Stir in the melted butter until fully incorporated.
  5. Carefully remove the hot popover pan from the oven and spray it with cooking spray or brush it with melted butter to prevent sticking.
  6. Fill each cup of the pan about halfway with the batter.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes at 450°F, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the popovers are puffed and golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a savory twist, add 1 cup of shredded cheese (like cheddar or Gruyère) to the batter before baking.
  • To create a sweeter version, mix in 2 tablespoons of sugar and serve with jam or honey.
