Description
Classic Popovers are light, airy bread rolls that are perfect for any meal. They are easy to make and can be customized with various flavors.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk, warmed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the pan
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a popover pan or muffin tin in the oven to heat up.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the warmed milk and eggs until well combined.
- In another bowl, sift together the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the milk and egg mixture, whisking until smooth and free of lumps.
- Stir in the melted butter until fully incorporated.
- Carefully remove the hot popover pan from the oven and spray it with cooking spray or brush it with melted butter to prevent sticking.
- Fill each cup of the pan about halfway with the batter.
- Bake for 20 minutes at 450°F, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the popovers are puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm.
Notes
- For a savory twist, add 1 cup of shredded cheese (like cheddar or Gruyère) to the batter before baking.
- To create a sweeter version, mix in 2 tablespoons of sugar and serve with jam or honey.
