Description

Baked Crunchy Hot Honey Chicken is a crispy, tender, and flavor-packed dish that delivers the perfect balance of sweet heat. This healthier alternative to fried chicken is coated in a golden, crunchy cornflake crust and finished with a fiery hot honey glaze. It’s easy to make, family-friendly, and irresistibly delicious!

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups cornflakes cereal, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray or vegetable oil (for greasing)

For the Hot Honey Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with a wire rack and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.

  • Set Up Coating Station – Arrange three shallow dishes:

    • One with flour
    • One with beaten eggs
    • One with crushed cornflakes, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper
  • Coat the Chicken – Dip each chicken breast into the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and finally press it into the seasoned cornflake mixture, ensuring an even, crunchy coating.

  • Bake – Place the coated chicken on the prepared rack and bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).

  • Make the Hot Honey Glaze – While the chicken bakes, whisk together honey, hot sauce, melted butter, and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl. Adjust spice levels to your preference.

  • Glaze & Serve – Brush the hot honey glaze over the freshly baked chicken. Let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For Extra Crispiness: Use a wire rack to allow air circulation and lightly spray the chicken with oil before baking.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use a gluten-free flour blend and gluten-free cornflakes.
  • Make Ahead: The hot honey glaze can be prepared in advance and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Customizations:
    • Swap cornflakes for panko breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for a different texture.
    • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less hot sauce.
    • Serve as a sandwich on a toasted brioche bun with pickles for a fun twist!
