Perfect for holidays, gatherings, or a sweet treat at home, it’s simple to prepare but tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen. This moist cake with its spiced whipped cream is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • Eggs, oil, and water as listed on the cake mix box
  • 1 jar (16 ounces) caramel topping

For the Apple Cider Whipped Cream:

  • 1½ cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 container (16 ounces) whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Prepare the Cake:

  • Preheat the oven according to the yellow cake mix instructions.
  • Prepare the cake batter by following the directions on the box, using the required eggs, oil, and water.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake as instructed on the package until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Add the Caramel Topping:

  • While the cake is still warm, poke holes all over its surface using a skewer or fork.
  • Pour the caramel topping evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
  • Let the cake cool completely, so the caramel fully absorbs into the cake.

Make the Apple Cider Whipped Cream:

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the confectioners’ sugar, thawed whipped topping, apple cider, and ground cinnamon.
  • Gently fold the ingredients together using a spatula until smooth and creamy.
  • Chill the whipped cream in the refrigerator for at least 15–20 minutes to let the flavors blend and firm up the consistency.

Assemble the Cake:

  • Once the cake has cooled and the caramel has soaked in, spread the apple cider whipped cream evenly over the top.
  • For an extra decorative touch, drizzle more caramel sauce over the whipped cream or sprinkle ground cinnamon.

Serve and Store:

  • Slice the cake into squares and serve immediately.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Use salted caramel for a sweet-and-savory flavor twist.
  • Make sure the cake is completely cool before spreading the whipped topping to prevent melting.
  • For homemade whipped cream, beat 1½ cups of heavy whipping cream with 2 tablespoons powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, then fold in the apple cider and cinnamon.
  • This cake is best served chilled but can be enjoyed at room temperature too.
