Description
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture, stirring until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover the loaf with the kitchen towel again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a sweeter bread, add ½ cup of raisins or chocolate chips to the dough before the first rise.
- Try brushing the top of the loaf with melted butter right after baking for an extra rich flavor and a shiny crust.
