Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture, stirring until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  8. Cover the loaf with the kitchen towel again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a sweeter bread, add ½ cup of raisins or chocolate chips to the dough before the first rise.
