Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup luncheon meat (cubed)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the mixture. Stir until combined.
  • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

2. Knead the Dough:

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

3. Prepare the Filling:

  • Cube the luncheon meat and lightly toast it in a skillet for extra flavor.
  • Shred the mozzarella cheese and set it aside.

4. Shape the Rolls:

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
  • Flatten each portion into a small circle, then place a handful of mozzarella and a few cubes of luncheon meat in the center.
  • Pinch the edges together to seal the filling, forming a ball.

5. Arrange in the Baking Dish:

  • Place the filled dough balls in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.
  • Cover and let the rolls rise again for 20-30 minutes.

6. Make the Garlic Butter:

  • Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in chopped parsley and parmesan cheese (if using).

7. Bake the Rolls:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the risen rolls generously with the garlic butter mixture.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.

8. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the cheesy, buttery, and savory flavors in every bite.

Notes

  • Adjust the Filling: Substitute luncheon meat with ham, bacon, or sautéed vegetables for a vegetarian version.
  • Make Ahead: Prepare the dough a day ahead, refrigerate it, and bake fresh the next day.
  • Freezing Tips: Freeze unbaked rolls for later use; thaw and bake as needed.
  • Toppings: Sprinkle sesame seeds, rosemary, or extra cheese on top for added texture and flavor.
