Description
French Crullers are light and airy pastries that are deep-fried to perfection, often enjoyed with a sweet glaze or dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms.
- Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and cinnamon if using.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Pipe 4-inch rings onto parchment paper or directly into the hot oil, frying a few at a time. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove crullers with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Allow to cool slightly before glazing or dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
- For a sweet glaze, mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons milk and a splash of vanilla extract. Dip the warm crullers in the glaze for a delicious finish.
- Experiment with flavors by adding citrus zest (like lemon or orange) to the dough for a refreshing twist.
