Description
A delicious and flavorful Hawaiian Shoyu Chicken recipe that combines soy sauce, brown sugar, and spices for a perfect balance of sweet and savory.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, water, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for better flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it in a baking dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the skin is crispy, basting with the marinade halfway through.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter flavor, add 1/4 cup of pineapple juice to the marinade.
- Serve with steamed rice and a side of sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
