Description

Delicious homemade honey cruller donuts that are light, fluffy, and drizzled with honey.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter will be thick and slightly sticky.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the batter for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  5. In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F.
  6. Using a piping bag fitted with a large star tip, pipe the batter into the hot oil in a circular motion to form donuts, about 3 inches in diameter.
  7. Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. While the donuts are still warm, drizzle them with honey and dust with powdered sugar.
  9. Serve immediately or let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a chocolate twist, add 1/4 cup cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.
  • Try adding a pinch of lemon zest to the batter for a refreshing citrus flavor.
