-
4 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 teaspoon baking powder
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Cream Filling:
-
2 cups heavy whipping cream
-
1/2 cup powdered sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Garnish:
-
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
Step 1: Preparing the Cake Layers
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
-
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
-
Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
-
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
-
Let the cake cool completely before assembling.
Step 2: Making the Cream Filling
-
In a large mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream.
-
Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
-
Using an electric mixer, whip the cream on medium speed until stiff peaks form (about 3-5 minutes). Be careful not to over-whip.
-
Refrigerate until ready to use.
Step 3: Assembling the Cake
-
Once the cake has cooled, carefully cut it in half horizontally to create two layers.
-
Place the bottom layer on a serving platter and spread half of the whipped cream evenly over it.
-
Gently place the top layer back on and spread the remaining whipped cream over the top.
-
Dust the cake with powdered sugar for a classic finish.
Step 4: Chilling and Serving
-
Cover the cake with plastic wrap or a cake dome and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
-
Slice and serve chilled for the best texture and taste.
Notes
-
-
Ensure all ingredients, especially eggs and butter, are at room temperature for best results.
-
Use a serrated knife to cut the cake layers evenly.
-
Chilling the cake before serving helps the flavors meld together and makes slicing easier.
-
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
-
For extra flavor, add a layer of fruit (strawberries, raspberries, or peaches) between the cake layers.
