Description

Start your morning with a savory-sweet combination that’s both comforting and indulgent! This sausage and waffle casserole blends fluffy waffles, savory breakfast sausage, melty cheddar cheese, and a rich egg mixture, making it the ultimate crowd-pleasing breakfast or brunch dish. Easy to prepare and customize, this recipe is perfect for lazy weekends, holidays, or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 8 frozen waffles, toasted and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1¼ cups milk
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch casserole dish.

2. Cook the Sausage:
In a skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease and set aside.

3. Toast and Prep the Waffles:
Toast the frozen waffles until lightly crispy and then cut them into bite-sized squares.

4. Layer the Casserole:

  • Arrange half of the waffle squares in the greased casserole dish.
  • Sprinkle half of the cooked sausage on top, followed by half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining waffles, sausage, and cheese.

5. Make the Egg Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

6. Pour the Egg Mixture:
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the casserole dish, ensuring it seeps into all the layers.

7. Bake the Casserole:

  • Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set in the center.

8. Cool and Serve:
Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite toppings!

Notes
