Description

Savory Birria Ramen is a comforting dish that combines tender beef, flavorful spices, and ramen noodles in a rich broth.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef chuck roast, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups ramen noodles
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef pieces and brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the beef and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Return the browned beef to the pot. Add the beef broth, diced tomatoes, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  5. Once the beef is tender, remove it from the pot and shred it with two forks. Return the shredded beef to the pot and stir to combine.
  6. In a separate pot, cook the ramen noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  7. To serve, place a portion of ramen noodles in a bowl. Ladle the birria broth and beef mixture over the noodles. Top with shredded cheese, cilantro, and green onions. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the broth.
  • Substitute the beef with shredded chicken or pork for a different flavor profile.
