Description
Savory Birria Ramen is a comforting dish that combines tender beef, flavorful spices, and ramen noodles in a rich broth.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef chuck roast, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups ramen noodles
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef pieces and brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the beef and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Return the browned beef to the pot. Add the beef broth, diced tomatoes, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Once the beef is tender, remove it from the pot and shred it with two forks. Return the shredded beef to the pot and stir to combine.
- In a separate pot, cook the ramen noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- To serve, place a portion of ramen noodles in a bowl. Ladle the birria broth and beef mixture over the noodles. Top with shredded cheese, cilantro, and green onions. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the broth.
- Substitute the beef with shredded chicken or pork for a different flavor profile.
