Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the milk, vanilla extract, salt, and nutmeg and cinnamon (if using) to the egg mixture. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture into a greased 8-inch square baking dish.
  5. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dish.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, use half-and-half instead of whole milk.
  • Try adding a splash of almond extract for a different flavor profile.
