Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 500 g wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Boiling water (as needed)
  • 12 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Filling:

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: spices such as cumin, paprika, or oregano

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix wheat flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add boiling water while stirring until the dough comes together.
  3. Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Knead in vegetable oil until fully incorporated.
  5. Cover and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling

  1. Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook until soft and translucent.
  3. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  4. Let the filling cool to room temperature.

Assemble the Dish

  1. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  2. Cut dough into circles with a cutter or glass rim.
  3. Place a spoonful of filling on each circle, fold into a half-moon, and seal the edges. Use a fork to crimp for extra sealing.

Cook the Dish

Option 1 – Boil:

  1. Boil a large pot of salted water.
  2. Add filled dough pieces and cook for 3-5 minutes or until they float. Drain well.

Option 2 – Fry:

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Fry the pieces until golden brown on both sides.
  3. Drain excess oil on paper towels.

Notes

  • Adjust spices in the filling to suit your taste.
  • Keep dough covered with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
  • For a healthier version, opt for boiling instead of frying.
  • These can be frozen and cooked later for quick meals.
