- Ground black pepper – 1 tsp
- Red pepper flakes (optional) – As desired
- Beef broth – 2 cups
- Ketchup – 1 cup
- Dijon mustard – 1 tbsp
- Worcestershire sauce – 1 tsp
- Sharp Cheddar cheese (shredded) – 1 ½ cups (divided)
For Serving:
- Baguettes (sliced, toasted) – 1–2
- Frito chips – 1 large bag
- Fresh parsley (chopped) – For garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients
- Dice the green and red bell peppers and onion, and mince the garlic.
- Shred the cheese, dividing it into two portions (¾ cup for mixing, ¾ cup for topping).
- Cook the Beef Mixture
- In a large pot, combine ground beef, bell peppers, onion, garlic, flour, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Add red pepper flakes for heat if desired.
- Place over medium-high heat, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Cook for ~15 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture is browned and crumbly, and excess moisture has evaporated.
- Simmer the Sauce
- Stir in beef broth, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Mix well, reduce heat to low, and let the mixture simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.
- Incorporate the Cheese
- Remove the pot from heat and stir in ¾ cup of shredded Cheddar cheese until melted and fully incorporated.
- Prepare for Broiling
- Preheat the oven to broil.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup of Cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Broil the Dip
- Place the baking dish under the broiler for ~5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown. Keep a close eye to avoid over-browning.
- Serve and Garnish
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley for a burst of color and flavor.
- Serve hot with toasted baguette slices and Frito chips for dipping.
Notes

- Adjust Spice Levels: Customize with red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
