Ingredients
For the Ham and Glaze:
- 8 lb spiral-cut ham
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup pure maple syrup (avoid artificially flavored syrups)
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- Cooking spray
For Garnish (Optional):
- Fresh herbs, such as rosemary or thyme
Instructions
-
Prepare the Slow Cooker
- Lightly coat the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
-
Place the Ham in the Slow Cooker
- Remove the ham from its packaging and discard any glaze packets that come with it.
- Place the ham flat side down in the slow cooker. This position allows the glaze to seep between the slices.
-
Make the Glaze
- In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, pure maple syrup, and pineapple juice.
- Whisk the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved and all ingredients are blended smoothly.
-
Pour the Glaze Over the Ham
- Slowly drizzle the glaze over the ham, letting it flow between the slices. This ensures every bite is infused with flavor.
- Allow any extra glaze to pool at the bottom of the slow cooker; this will baste the ham as it cooks.
-
Cook the Ham
- Cover the slow cooker with the lid.
- Set the slow cooker to low and cook the ham for 4–6 hours or until it’s heated through and tender.
- Baste the ham every hour with the glaze from the bottom of the slow cooker.
-
Caramelize the Glaze (Optional)
- For a caramelized finish, preheat the broiler during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- Carefully transfer the ham to a baking dish and spoon some of the glaze over the top.
- Place the ham under the broiler on high for 3–5 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning. The glaze will bubble and turn a deep golden brown.
-
Slice and Serve
- Transfer the ham to a serving platter. If not already pre-sliced, carve the ham into thin portions.
- Drizzle with the remaining glaze from the slow cooker for extra flavor.
- Garnish with fresh herbs, such as rosemary or thyme, for a beautiful and fragrant finishing touch.
Notes
- Type of Ham: Use a fully cooked, spiral-cut ham for the best results. The slices allow the glaze to coat every piece evenly.
- Glaze Substitutions: If you don’t have pineapple juice, orange juice works well as an alternative.
- Prevent Drying Out: Regularly basting the ham with the glaze keeps it juicy and flavorful.
- Leftover Ideas: Leftover ham is perfect for sandwiches, omelets, soups, or casseroles. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
