  • 12 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 12 cups dry bread cubes

Seasonings

  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried marjoram
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Moisture and Binding

  • 4 ½ cups chicken broth (or as needed)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Vegetables

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, celery, mushrooms, and parsley.
  3. Cook for 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened.

Step 2: Combine Bread Cubes and Vegetables

  1. Place the dry bread cubes in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the sautéed vegetables and toss to combine.

Step 3: Season the Stuffing

  1. Sprinkle the bread and vegetable mixture with salt, sage, poultry seasoning, thyme, marjoram, and black pepper.
  2. Toss until the seasonings are evenly distributed.

Step 4: Add Broth and Eggs

  1. Gradually pour in enough chicken broth to moisten the bread cubes.
  2. Add the beaten eggs and mix well until everything is fully combined.

Step 5: Transfer to Slow Cooker

  1. Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker.
  2. Pour the stuffing mixture into the slow cooker and spread it out evenly.

Step 6: Cook the Stuffing

  1. Cover and cook on High for 45 minutes.
  2. Reduce the heat to Low and cook for an additional 4–8 hours, stirring occasionally.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Once cooked, fluff the stuffing with a fork and serve it hot alongside your favorite main dishes.

Notes

  • Stale Bread: Dry or stale bread cubes work best for absorbing the broth and flavors. Toast fresh bread if needed.
  • Adjust Moisture: Add broth gradually to ensure the stuffing is moist but not soggy.
  • Customize: Feel free to mix in extras like cooked sausage, dried cranberries, or chopped apples.
