Description

Southern Fried Apples are a delicious and sweet dessert made from sautéed apples, butter, and spices, perfect for serving warm.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced apples to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until they start to soften.
  3. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over the apples. Stir well to coat the apples evenly.
  4. Drizzle the lemon juice over the mixture and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the apples are tender and caramelized.
  5. If using, stir in the chopped pecans and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm, either on their own or over vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a splash of vanilla extract while cooking.
  • Substitute the Granny Smith apples with Honeycrisp or Fuji apples for a sweeter taste.
