Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the filling:
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, diced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- For the icing:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the warmed milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, diced strawberries, and cornstarch in a bowl until well combined.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
- Once the rolls are done, drizzle the icing over the warm rolls and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of lemon zest to the cream cheese filling.
- You can substitute the strawberries with blueberries or raspberries for a different fruit flavor.
