A delicious recipe for stuffed baked mussels, also known as Baked Tahong, featuring a savory breadcrumb topping.
Ingredients
- 12 large mussels, cleaned and shells separated
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, melted butter, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Place the cleaned mussel shells on a baking sheet. Spoon the breadcrumb mixture generously onto each mussel half.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with lemon wedges on the side.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider mixing in some cooked and crumbled bacon or chopped cooked shrimp into the stuffing mixture.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of hot sauce to the breadcrumb mixture before stuffing the mussels.
