Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

For the Stir Fry:

  • 1 pound chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound green beans, trimmed
  • 1/2 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water

For Garnish:

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • Additional basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes.
  2. Stir well until the sugar dissolves and set aside.

Cook the Chicken

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the thinly sliced chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink.
  3. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Stir Fry the Vegetables

  1. Pour the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil into the skillet.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced onion and red bell pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  4. Toss in the trimmed green beans and stir fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.

Combine Chicken and Sauce

  1. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet.
  2. Pour in the prepared sauce and add 1/4 cup of water.
  3. Stir well to coat all the ingredients evenly in the sauce.
  4. Let the mixture cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Finish with Basil

  1. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the fresh chopped basil leaves.
  2. Allow the heat to release the basil’s aroma, enhancing the dish’s flavor.

Serve the Dish

  1. Serve the Thai chicken stir fry hot over a bed of steamed jasmine rice.
  2. Garnish with additional basil leaves for an extra touch of color and flavor.

Notes

  • Adjust Spice Level: For a spicier dish, increase the chili flakes or add a teaspoon of Sriracha to the sauce.
  • Protein Alternatives: Swap chicken for shrimp, tofu, or beef strips for variety.
  • Basil Options: Thai basil is ideal for its unique flavor, but regular sweet basil works well as a substitute.
