Start Valentine’s Day with a breakfast as special as the person you’re sharing it with. This heart-shaped toast and egg dish is as delightful to look at as it is to eat. Perfectly simple yet full of love, it’s the sweetest way to begin your day.
Ingredients
- 1–2 heart-shaped cookie cutters
- 4 slices of bread (your favorite type)
- 4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Your Ingredients:
- Lightly toast the bread slices.
- Have heart-shaped cookie cutters ready in two sizes if using the two-cookie-cutter method.
- Heart-Shape Eggs and Toast (Two Cookie Cutters):
- Butter a nonstick pan or spray it with non-stick spray and place over medium-low heat.
- Place the larger cookie cutter in the pan and crack an egg into it. Cook until the yolk is firm, covering with a lid if needed.
- Using the smaller cutter, create a heart shape in the center of the cooked egg and in a toasted bread slice.
- Assemble by placing the small egg heart in the bread cutout and the small toast heart in the egg center.
- Season with salt and pepper, and serve warm.
- Egg-in-a-Heart Toast (Single Cookie Cutter):
- Lay a bread slice on a flat surface and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut a heart in the center.
- Butter both sides of the bread and the heart cutout.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the bread slice to toast one side.
- Flip the bread over and crack an egg into the heart-shaped cutout. Cook for 5–6 minutes until the egg whites are fully set.
- Toast the heart-shaped cutouts in the same pan.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper over the egg-in-toast and serve with the toasted cutouts.
Notes
- Non-Stick Prep: Coat cookie cutters with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
- Customize Toppings: Add avocado slices, bacon, or a sprinkle of Parmesan for extra flavor.
- Bread Choice: Thick slices like sourdough or brioche work best to hold the egg.
