Description
Vanilla French Beignets are irresistible fried delights that are soft, fluffy, and dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough will be slightly sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into 2-inch squares or rectangles using a sharp knife or pastry cutter.
- In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Carefully drop a few pieces of dough into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the beignets from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For a twist, try adding a teaspoon of almond extract to the wet ingredients for a different flavor profile.
- You can fill the beignets with jam or chocolate before frying for a delicious surprise inside.
