Description

Warm, creamy, and loaded with bold flavors, this White Queso Recipe is a Tex-Mex classic. Featuring melted cheese, jalapeños, and a hint of spice, this dip is perfect for parties, game days, or anytime cravings. Whether scooped with tortilla chips or drizzled over nachos, this queso is sure to delight.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Evaporated milk – 12 oz (1 can)
  • Cornstarch – 1 tbsp
  • White American cheese – ¾ lb
  • Mozzarella cheese (shredded) – 4 oz
  • Chopped canned jalapeños – 2 tbsp
  • Chili powder or cumin – 1 tsp
  • Ground nutmeg (optional) – ½ tsp
  • Red pepper flakes – 1 tsp
  • Kosher salt – ¼ tsp
  • Ground black pepper – ¼ tsp

Optional Garnishes

  • Fresh cilantro (chopped) – For topping
  • Tomatoes (chopped) – For topping
  • Jalapeños (sliced) – For topping

Instructions

  • Heat the Evaporated Milk
    • In a small saucepan, pour the evaporated milk and heat over medium-high heat.
    • Whisk in the cornstarch until fully dissolved.
  • Melt the Cheese
    • Once the milk begins to simmer (bubbles forming at the edges), reduce heat to low.
    • Gradually add white American cheese, stirring constantly until melted.
    • Stir in shredded mozzarella and whisk until smooth and creamy.
  • Add Flavor
    • Stir in the chopped jalapeños, chili powder (or cumin), nutmeg (if using), red pepper flakes, kosher salt, and black pepper.
    • Mix well to ensure even seasoning throughout the queso.
  • Optional Broil
    • For a golden, bubbly finish, transfer the queso to an oven-safe skillet and broil for 3–4 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and bubbly.
  • Garnish and Serve
    • Top the queso with chopped cilantro, diced tomatoes, or sliced jalapeños for added color and flavor.
    • Serve warm with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos and nachos.

Notes

  • Low Heat is Key: Avoid high heat, as it can cause the cheese to separate.
  • Customize the Spice: Add or reduce jalapeños and red pepper flakes to suit your spice preference.
  • Use Fresh Cheese: Freshly shredded mozzarella melts better than pre-packaged options.
  • Keep It Warm: Serve the queso in a fondue pot or slow cooker to maintain its creamy consistency.
