Ingredients

For the Dish:

  • 1 ¼ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast or tenders, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil (e.g., canola or vegetable oil), divided
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (plus more for garnish)
  • 8 ounces uncooked linguine pasta
  • 1 ½ cups water (plus more as needed)
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season chicken pieces with garlic powder, paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
  • Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together water, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Set aside.
  • Cook the Chicken:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of neutral oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Sauté Aromatics:
    • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of neutral oil and sesame oil to the skillet.
    • Stir in minced garlic, ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Cook the Pasta:
    • Add uncooked linguine pasta to the skillet. Pour in the reserved sauce and stir to combine.
    • Bring to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer, and scrape up browned bits from the skillet’s bottom.
  • Combine and Simmer:
    • Return the chicken (and any juices) to the skillet. Add brown sugar and mix well.
    • Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10–12 minutes or until the pasta is tender and the sauce thickens. Add water as needed to maintain a saucy consistency.
  • Garnish and Serve:
    • Stir in sesame seeds and green onions just before serving.
    • Garnish with additional crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic, ginger, and green onions for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Add veggies like bell peppers or broccoli for extra nutrition.
