Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Haluski (Cabbage and Noodles)
  1. In a large Dutch oven, place the turkey bacon over medium heat. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until nearly crisp and golden. Remove the bacon, leaving the rendered fat in the pot.
  2. Add 3 tablespoons of butter to the warm pot with the bacon fat. Once melted, toss in the chopped onions and let them sauté for about 5 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Introduce the chopped cabbage to the pot, followed by salt and pepper to taste. Stir well and cover the pot. Cook for approximately 10 minutes on medium heat.
  4. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to package instructions, usually around 7-8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  5. Add the drained egg noodles to the Dutch oven with the cabbage mixture and the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter. Gently fold together and heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve warm, finishing with a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper.
