Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, 2/3 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until fully blended, ensuring no lumps remain.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the milk gradually, stirring until just moistened—avoid overmixing!
- Grease the bottom and sides of a 4-5 quart crock pot with cooking spray or melted butter.
- Gently spoon the batter into the greased crock pot, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
- Evenly distribute the diced Gala apples on top of the batter.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the orange juice, honey (or brown sugar), melted butter, remaining sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Carefully pour the orange mixture over the layered apples in the crock pot.
- Place a clean kitchen towel over the opening of the crock pot and cover it with the lid. Cook for 2-3 hours on high.
- Once cooked, allow the cake to cool slightly before serving.
