Step-by-Step Instructions for Black Forest Trifle
  1. Bake the chocolate cake according to the instructions or your favorite recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F and pour the batter into a greased cake pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the whipped cream by beating heavy cream in a chilled mixing bowl. After 2-3 minutes, add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then continue whipping until soft peaks form.
  3. Wash and pit fresh cherries, slice in half if desired. Set aside to prepare for layering.
