Step-by-Step Instructions for Paska Bread
  1. Dissolve 2 tablespoons of active dry yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar in 1 cup of warm water. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add 1/4 cup of nonfat dry milk powder and 5 cups of all-purpose flour into the bowl. Stir until smooth and combined.
  3. Mix in 4 large eggs, 1/2 cup melted butter, and 1/2 cup sugar. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and combine well.
  4. Knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into two parts, and shape as desired.
  7. Cover shaped loaves and let them rise for another hour.
  8. Prepare egg glaze by whisking one egg with a tablespoon of water and brush over the tops.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes until golden brown.
