Equipment

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by peeling and slicing the large yellow onions into half-inch rounds. In a skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat, then add the onions along with a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden-brown and fragrant.
  2. While the onions are caramelizing, take the ground beef and mix it with Creole seasoning in a bowl. Use your hands to form the mixture into thin patties, about the size of your caramelized onion rounds. Set the patties aside on a plate, ready for cooking.
  3. In the same skillet as the onions, increase the heat to medium-high and add the seasoned beef patties. Sear them for 2-3 minutes on each side until cooked through. Just before they finish cooking, top each patty with a slice of American cheese.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, relish, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Adjust seasoning as desired.
  5. To assemble, start with a caramelized onion round, add a cheesy beef patty, drizzle with sauce, and top with another caramelized onion round.
  6. Serve hot with extra sauce on the side, alongside fries or a fresh salad.
