  • 2 cups Beef Broth Low sodium preferred; substitute with vegetable broth for a lighter version.
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Use half-and-half for a lighter sauce.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic can replace it for extra zest.

Equipment

  • Oven-safe skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, finely diced onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and shape into 6 to 8 oval patties.
  2. Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté sliced onion until soft. Add flour and cook briefly. Gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream to thicken the gravy.
  4. Nestle the browned patties back into the gravy, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes. Then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  5. Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the gravy to set.
