- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the lean ground beef, chopped white onion, and minced garlic for about 8–10 minutes until the beef is brown and the onions are translucent.
- Drain any excess grease and transfer the mixture into a greased 4 to 6-quart slow cooker, scraping in all the flavorful bits from the skillet.
- Add the diced tomatoes, chili beans in sauce, tomato sauce, chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and pepper into the slow cooker. Stir well.
- Cover and set the slow cooker to cook on low for approximately 6 hours.
- Remove the lid, stir the chili, and serve warm topped with sour cream, grated cheese, and green onions.
