Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded balls of dough onto baking sheets, leaving space between each.
  8. Make a small divot in the center of each ball and place a caramel inside.
  9. Optional: sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top.
  10. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden but centers look slightly underbaked.
  11. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  12. Before serving, sprinkle flaky sea salt on warm cookies.
