Step-by-Step Instructions for Homemade Lasagna
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather all your ingredients.
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a rolling boil. Add lasagna noodles and cook until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef or Italian sausage, cooking until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add onion and garlic, cooking for an additional 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Mix in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan until smooth and creamy.
  6. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, ending with sauce and mozzarella on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  8. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
