  2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine brown sugar, water, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Lay out thick-cut bacon strips on the wire rack and coat each with the sugary mixture. Sprinkle red pepper flakes if desired.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then flip each slice and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until crispy.
