Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, sifted flour, and sugar. Whisk until thoroughly mixed.
- In another bowl, whisk together egg whites, milk, and almond extract until smooth.
- Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently fold the batter until no dry ingredients remain.
- Divide the batter evenly between prepared cake pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove cakes from the oven and cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Loosen edges with a knife before flipping onto the rack.
Frosting
- Beat the butter and milk until smooth. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, beating until fluffy.
- Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, then place the second layer and frost the top and sides.
