  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20) for juiciness and flavor
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs substitute with gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed

  • 1/4 cup Milk or non-dairy milk
  • 1 large Egg alk for binding; replace with a flax egg for vegan option

  • 2 cups Beef Broth or vegetable broth for a lighter dish
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch or arrowroot powder as a gluten-free alternative
  • 1/4 cup Water to mix with cornstarch

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Set aside for about 5 minutes.
  2. Using slightly wet hands, shape the mixture into four oval patties, each about 1 inch thick.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and keep warm.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms for about 5 minutes until tender.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, increase heat and bring to a gentle simmer for around 2 minutes.
  6. Mix cornstarch with water until smooth, then whisk into the gravy. Cook for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  7. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let simmer together for about 5 minutes.
  8. Serve the Salisbury steaks hot with gravy over the top alongside your favorite sides.
