Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Sauté the onions: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with butter. Add in diced onions and sauté for 3-5 minutes until soft and translucent.
  2. Brown the beef: Add cubed beef to the skillet, spreading it out. Sear beef for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  3. Add broth and seasonings: Pour in beef broth, bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover.
  4. Simmer until tender: Allow beef to simmer over low heat for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until fork-tender.
  5. Thicken the gravy: Combine cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Gradually add to the skillet while stirring until gravy thickens.
  6. Cook the egg noodles: Boil salted water and cook noodles according to package instructions, usually 6-8 minutes. Drain and toss with butter.
