  • 4 cups Hash Brown Potatoes diced frozen potatoes work well
  • 1 lb Pork Sausage can substitute with turkey sausage or diced ham
  • 1 medium Onion diced
For the Egg Mixture
  • 6 large Eggs can use egg whites for a lighter option
  • 1 cup Milk can use heavy cream for richer flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder omit if using fresh onions
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder substitute with fresh garlic for stronger flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper adjust to taste
For the Topping
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese can use Colby Jack or a Mexican cheese blend

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Spread thawed hash brown potatoes evenly into the baking pan, pressing down slightly.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the pork sausage and diced onion until browned and translucent, about 10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well blended.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layer of hash browns and sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top.
  6. Spread the cooked sausage and onion mixture over the cheese layer and top with remaining cheese.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is crispy.
  8. Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
